2023 Belt and Road Forum For Interconnected Land-Sea Development: “Jointly Ushering into A New Future for Interconnected Land-Sea Development” 17-18 May, 2023 Chongqing, China.

On May 17, 2023 China Studies Center Kazakhstan participated at the “Belt and Road” Forum For Interconnected Land-Sea Development 2023 held in Chongqing, China. The Forum was hosted by the “Belt and Road” Think Tank Cooperation Alliance and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, and was organized jointly by Silk Road Think Tank Association, the Center for Contemporary World Studies of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. Think Tank associations, research institutions and business organizations from the “Belt and Road” partner countries gathered in the mountain city of Chongqing to seek common development plans, share development opportunities, and create a new future of land-sea linkage development.

After the opening ceremony, the agreement on friendship and cooperation between Chinese national, Chongqing local and foreign think tanks was signed, the “International Cooperation and Exchange Center” and the “ILSTC Think Tank Alliance” was established.

Participants of the Forum took active part at the panel discussions, parallel meetings, results releases, field visits and opinion exchanges. Chinese and foreign guests have also inspected Chongqing’s economic and social development and exchanged views with experts and scholars from Chongqing think tanks.

The theme of this year’s forum is “Jointly Ushering into A New Future for Interconnected Land-Sea Development “. It encompassed Panel Discussions on Interconnected Regional Economic Development along Land-Sea Routes, Emerging Industrial Cooperation along Belt and Road, and People-to-People Exchanges along Belt and Road:

1.    Interconnected Regional Economic Development Along the ILSTC panel session mainly discussed the ILSTC’s role in promoting coordinated regional economic development, compare notes on the progress and achievements, analyze opportunities and challenges, and propose and exchange insights on possible policy suggestions.
2.    Emerging Industrial Cooperation Along Belt and Road panel session covered the cooperation in emerging sectors, such as the digital economy and green industries, and analyze new opportunities they will bring to trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between China and relevant countries. Experts will propose and exchange insights on the suggestions for promoting the Digital Silk Road and the Green Silk Road.
3.    People-to-People Exchanges Along Belt and Road panel session touched upon people-to-people exchanges, called on efforts to implement the Global Civilization Initiative, deepen people-to-people exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, and promote friendship among people from different countries.

The joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, which will build a bridge for countries involved to deepen strategic view and achieve common development, promote the complementary advantages of land and sea corridors, help build a global connectivity partnerships, promote the construction of the “Belt and Road” to be deepened, stable and far-reaching, for the benefit of people of all countries.

On May 18, 2023 guests from China and abroad participating in the “Belt and Road Initiative” Land-Sea Interconnected Development Forum 2023 visited Chongqing Planning Exhibition Gallery.
At the Chongqing International Inland Logistics Hub Exhibition Center and Chongqing Planning Exhibition Gallery, Chinese and foreign think tank experts gained a deep understanding of the process of building Chongqing’s inland open highland and the latest achievements in the construction of new land-sea corridor, speaking highly of Chongqing’s efficient innovation measures; at Sichuan International Studies University, they visited the gallery of university history and Overseas Educational Consultancy; at Southwest University of Political Science & Law, they learned about the construction of the China-ASEAN Legal Research Center and Judicial Appraisal Center.
Experts spoke highly of the fruitful achievements made by Chongqing in actively serving and taking part in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road Initiative” and fully promoting the construction of new western land-sea corridor. All of them agreed that the larger the ‘circle of friends’, the wider the space for cooperation. Platforms such as think tank alliances and forums will be made good use to promote political, industrial, academic and research cooperation, thus jointly making beautiful vision come true
