BRICS Seminar on Governance and Cultural Exchange

Director of the China Studies Center, Gulnar Shaimergenova, delivered a speech at the BRICS Seminar on Governance and Cultural Exchange, which was held on June 30, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event, organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, China International Communications Group, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, gathered over 120 participants from BRICS member states and partner countries, including Russia, India, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia, and others.

The forum was structured around four thematic sessions: “Promoting Fair and Equitable Global Governance,” “Safeguarding a Free and Open Multilateral Trade System,” “Driving Modernization through Innovation,” and “Building a Harmonious World of Diverse Civilizations.”

Gulnar Shaimergenova spoke at the sub-forum “Promoting Fair and Equitable Global Governance,” where she presented a report on the current challenges of global governance. She emphasized the importance of implementing principles of fairness, inclusiveness, and mutual respect in international politics, highlighting the crucial role that cultural and humanitarian exchanges play in building trust and mutual understanding among nations. In her speech, the Director of the China Studies Center stressed the significance of active participation by Global South countries in shaping a new global order.

At the same time, a key analytical publication by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies — a report on mechanisms of expanded cooperation within BRICS — was presented at the venue, having been released on the eve of the event.

The seminar took place ahead of the XVII BRICS Summit, scheduled for July 6–7, 2025, also in Rio de Janeiro. This upcoming summit is expected to serve as an important stage for discussing reforms in global governance, creating alternative settlement mechanisms in national currencies, and strengthening the role of Global South member states.

Gulnar Shaimergenova’s participation in this event underscores the active role of the China Studies Center in advancing international dialogue and cultural diplomacy. Her speech contributed expert depth to the discussions on sustainable global governance, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s and the Center’s commitment to promoting multilateral cooperation based on mutual respect, equality, and sustainable development.
