СHINA STUDIES CENTRE PARTICIPATED IN THE CELEBRATION OF THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF BEIJING UNIVERSITY’S DONGFANG INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

At the invitation of Beijing University, the Director of the China Studies Centre, Mrs. Gulnar Shaimergenova, took part in the events dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Dongfang Scholarship international exchange program, which took place in September 2024 in Beijing. This anniversary marks an important milestone in the history of the program, which since its founding in 2019 has contributed to strengthening international understanding, fostering cooperation, and leadership across various sectors.

 

The Dongfang Scholarship Programme was established with the support of organizations such as China Daily, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), and China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited. Over five years, the program has helped 295 scholarship recipients from 83 countries enhance their knowledge and exchange experiences, allowing many of them to take prominent positions on the international stage.

 

The event celebrating the program’s 5th anniversary included a symposium titled “5 Years of the Dongfang Scholarship Program,” where topics such as “Chinese Modernization from the Perspective of the Global South” and “Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind” were discussed. The symposium provided a significant platform for exchanging views and in-depth discussions on China’s development, its modernization, and their impact on global progress.

 

The Dongfang Scholarship Programme aims to develop key skills and competencies required for working in modern conditions. It includes lectures, seminars, and field activities, enabling participants not only to gain theoretical knowledge but also to apply it in practice. Field activities are conducted in major cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and others, providing participants with a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the cultural and technological achievements of the country.

 

The participation of the Director of the China Studies Centre in the anniversary events of the Dongfang Scholarship Programme underscores the importance of international cooperation and knowledge exchange, which are the foundation for joint development and progress. The program continues to play a key role in strengthening international ties and preparing future leaders capable of contributing to the sustainable development of their countries and the global community.
