SEMINAR «75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE PRC: RESULTS AND PROSPECTS»

The China Studies Centre held a seminar dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), during which experts discussed key aspects of China’s transformation, its achievements, and prospects for cooperation with Kazakhstan. The event took place at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel and brought together representatives of academia, diplomatic missions, and public organizations. Participants included representatives from Nazarbayev University, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Maqsut Narikbayev University, the Amanat Party, KISI (Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies), and the media.

 

The seminar was organized to analyze China’s historical journey, its innovative and economic potential, and to identify areas for deepening Kazakhstan-China cooperation in science, economy, and culture.

 

The seminar was opened with speeches by Gulnar Shaimergenova, Director of the China Studies Centre, and Ms. Xin Fangfang, Counselor-Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kazakhstan.

 

Welcoming the participants and guests, the Director of the Center emphasized the importance of the event. She highlighted that the 75-year journey China has undertaken to become one of the world’s leading powers is not only impressive but also unique due to its scale and significance. China’s achievements in economic development, scientific and technological innovation, environmental transformation, and international cooperation stand as testaments to its remarkable success over the past decades.

 

The Director drew attention to China’s key achievements, noting how economic transformation has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty. She emphasized the importance of the «Belt and Road Initiative,» in which Kazakhstan plays a pivotal role, enhancing trade, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries. «Joint projects in logistics, energy, and innovation lay the foundation for future cooperation,» she added.

 

A significant part of the speech focused on China’s technological leadership. The Director also highlighted China’s contributions to combating climate change: «As the world’s largest producer of solar and wind energy, China is setting global trends for sustainable development.» Concluding her speech, she stressed the importance of cultural exchange, which fosters closer ties between the youth of both nations: «Young people are becoming ambassadors of peace, contributing to mutual understanding and shared progress.»

 

«The People’s Republic of China has made a tremendous leap in its 75-year history. Studying its experience helps us better understand processes that may also benefit our region. This seminar is an excellent opportunity to exchange views and knowledge,» noted Gulnar Shaimergenova, Director of the China Studies Centre.

 

Ms. Xin Fangfang, Counselor-Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kazakhstan, also delivered a welcoming address at the seminar. In her speech, she emphasized the significance of this anniversary as a major milestone in China’s history and achievements on the international stage. She noted the strengthening ties between China and Kazakhstan, expressing confidence in the further deepening of cooperation across various fields. Ms. Xin also thanked the organizers of the event for their efforts in fostering friendship between the peoples of the two countries and creating a platform for productive dialogue.

 

As part of the program, key experts delivered their presentations. Lazzat Nursultanova, Professor at the Higher School of Social and Humanitarian Sciences at the International University of Astana, highlighted China’s contribution to the development of global science, emphasizing its innovative potential and competitiveness. «China’s achievements in research and development demonstrate not only high technological dynamism but also its ability to integrate into the global scientific community,» she remarked.

 

The seminar served as a platform to analyze China’s historical achievements and identify areas for collaboration, contributing to the ongoing dialogue and strengthening relations between Kazakhstan and China.

 

Jiyan Dong, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business, highlighted China’s achievements in high-tech sectors and their impact on the global economy.

 

«China’s approach to innovation has become the defining factor in its leadership in the global technology market,» the expert emphasized.

 

In his presentation, Mr. Dong stated:  «China’s state capitalism demonstrates its ability to foster competition and innovation. Despite the view that such a model is inefficient, China currently boasts over 100 electric vehicle brands competing in its domestic market. This is the result of a unique approach in which the state actively creates conditions for competition and encourages companies to pursue radical innovations.»

 

In his report, he also noted:  «China’s progress is based on pragmatic leadership and its ability to adapt the economic system, maintaining a balance between a planned economy and market competition mechanisms.»

 

Zhamaladen Ibragimov, Doctor of Law and Professor of Constitutional and Civil Law at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, analyzed the potential for cooperation between Kazakhstan and China under the theme, ‘China’s Role in International Security and Peacekeeping.’

 

In his speech, the speaker noted that China is one of the world’s leading powers, playing a key role in ensuring global security and stability. Its economic and political influence makes it a vital player on the international stage.

 

In the context of growing instability, China actively participates in international initiatives aimed at enhancing security and supporting peacekeeping efforts. Principles of non-interference, respect for sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states create a foundation for trust and collaboration. China develops multilateral formats such as the UN, SCO, and BRICS, contributing to the resolution of global challenges. Key priorities include maintaining stability, combating terrorism, engaging in crisis-response initiatives, and creating conditions for sustainable economic growth. China is shaping new approaches to global security by offering solutions that promote long-term stability and prosperity.

 

Jamilya Eleusizova, Chairperson of the NGO «Friendship of Chinese University Alumni,» focused on the importance of cultural exchange between the youth of Kazakhstan and China.

 

At a seminar dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, she noted that over the past 30 years, bilateral relations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

 

In her speech, the speaker emphasized the key role of youth in strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, describing it as the driver of progress that forms the cultural and intellectual foundations of society. According to her, cooperation in culture, science, sports, and education contributes to creating a «community of shared destiny,» which is especially critical in the face of global challenges.

 

She pointed out that even during the pandemic, young people actively engaged in online events, maintaining the spirit of friendship and cooperation.

 

Eleusizova expressed confidence that Kazakhstani youth, acting as a cultural bridge between the two countries, are becoming «ambassadors of peace and mutual understanding.» She also highlighted support for the Belt and Road Initiative, which opens new horizons for collaboration in key areas such as energy and high technology.

 

Concluding her speech, Jamilya Eleusizova stressed that the future of global peace depends on unity and cooperation, especially at the youth level, and assured that the Association of Chinese University Alumni will continue to actively strengthen the friendship between the two peoples.

 

Among the seminar speakers were representatives of research centers.  Askar Kysykov, Director of the TALAP Applied Research Center, participated as a speaker. The theme of his presentation was «China’s Economic Transformation and Opportunities for Kazakhstan-China Cooperation.»

 

In his speech, Askar Kysykov highlighted the key stages of China’s economic reforms, which have made the country one of the world’s leading economies.

 

«For Kazakhstan, partnership with China opens unique opportunities in logistics, energy, and technology. Our main task remains building a dialogue based on trust and the long-term interests of both sides,» he noted.

 

The speaker’s presentation was an important part of the event, emphasizing the significance of analytical work and expert evaluations by TALAP in building effective bilateral relations. Thanks to such initiatives, the center continues to make a significant contribution to the development of scientific and business dialogue between the two countries, strengthening Kazakhstan’s role as a key partner of China in Central Asia.

 

In his speech, Ulan Nukhitjan, Senior Researcher of the «Country Priorities of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Policy» group at the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, addressed joint projects in science and education.

 

At the seminar on Kazakhstan-China cooperation in science and education, the speaker highlighted the importance of mutual engagement between the two countries in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, education, and scientific research. He noted that cooperation is carried out within the framework of intergovernmental agreements, including student exchanges, the establishment of cultural centers, and the development of joint scientific and educational initiatives.

 

Quoting Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the speaker emphasized:  «China, as a global leader, makes a significant contribution to global sustainable development, ensuring international stability and security.»

 

Special attention was given to the prospects of opening branches of Chinese technical universities in Kazakhstan, which, according to the speaker, would be a significant step in strengthening bilateral partnerships. The speaker also expressed confidence that the current dynamics of cooperation will continue to grow, creating new opportunities for both countries.

 

The seminar organizers expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm, high level of engagement, and deep interest in the topics discussed.  Valuable ideas were voiced, active exchanges of experience took place, and the topics raised became the basis for comprehensive and productive dialogue.

 

The seminar concluded with concrete proposals aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. Special emphasis was placed on developing cultural interaction, expanding humanitarian ties, and working jointly on innovative projects that align with the interests of both countries.

 

Participants shared a common belief that cultural collaboration and joint initiatives in science, technology, and education create a solid foundation for building a «community of shared destiny.»

 

The seminar not only served as an important platform for the exchange of experience and opinions but also represented a significant step toward forming new approaches in bilateral relations. The ideas expressed received positive feedback and will contribute to the implementation of joint projects, strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships. Such constructive interaction reflects the maturity of Kazakhstan-China relations and opens new horizons for their further development in a spirit of trust, respect, and shared goals.
