LI KEQIANG APPROVED AS PREMIER OF THE STATE COUNCIL OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Beijing, March 18 / Xinhua/ — Li Keqiang was approved as Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China on Sunday at the ongoing first session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the 13th convocation.

About 3,000 deputies of the National People’s Congress voted to approve the candidacy of Li Keqiang for the post of premier, nominated by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Officially, Li Keqiang was appointed premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China after Xi Jinping signed a corresponding decree.

Li Keqiang then took an oath of allegiance to the basic law of the country. “I swear to be faithful to the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China, protect the authority of the Constitution, fulfill the duties established by law, be loyal to the Motherland and the people, conscientiously and honestly fulfill my duty, accept control from the people and work hard to build a rich, powerful, democratic, civilized, harmonious and beautiful modernized socialist state,” Li Keqiang promised.

Li Keqiang, born in 1955, a member of the Communist Party of China since 1976, graduated from Peking University. In 2007, he was elected to the PC of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, and in 2008, he was appointed Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
In 2012 and 2017, Li Keqiang was re-elected to the PC of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee.
In the report on the work of the government, presented on March 5, Li Keqiang called on the people of the country to rally even closer around the CPC Central Committee, the core of which is Comrade Xi Jinping, to be proactive and work hard.
